  4. How to Configure a Virtual Private Network (VPN) on Windows 10
This articles applies to: all SC&I individuals with a SC&I user account
Pre-requisite(s): a scilsnet user account, Windows 10

Note: The scilsnet VPN is being retired. If you have never used scilsnet VPN previously, please install Rutgers VPN instead.

  1. Verify you are connected to the Internet
  2. Click the Windows (Start Menu) icon at the lower left of the desktop and choose Settings (gear icon)
  3. Choose Network & Internet settings
  4. Click on VPN and then “Add a VPN connection”
  5. On the next page, enter the following settings:
    • VPN provider: Windows (built-in)
    • Connection name: SC&I VPN
    • Server name or address: vpn.comminfo.rutgers.edu
    • VPN type: L2TP/IPsec with pre-shared key
    • Type of sign-in info: scilsnet user name and password (which may be different from your NetID password)
    • Pre-shared key: vpn1@comminfo
    • Username and password fields: Type your SCILSNET username followed by SCILSNET password
  6. Click Save

You have completed the one-time process to configure your computer for use with SC&I VPN.

To connect to SC&I VPN:

  1. Click on your internet connection icon in your desktop ‘system tray’ (next to the clock)
  2. Select SC&I VPN
  3. Click the Connect button
  4. Your status should say “Connected”
